John 4:13-14 Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
Are you thirsty? What are you thirsty about? How thirsty are you?
About 60-70% of our body is made up of water.
It's been said that we can live for forty days without food, four days without water, and four minutes without air. But we cannot live for four seconds without hope.
While this quote highlights the importance of hope, it also tells us how much we needed water to survive.
If given a choice between air or water, what would you choose?
I would choose water! Why? Without air, you will die faster than without water. But without water, you die a slow, torturous death!
If you have ever been badly deprived of water you'd know what I mean.
We've all read of story of people lost at sea, surrounded by water yet dying of thirst.
Sadly, some succumbed to such intense craving for water that they started drinking sea water, only to become more thirsty and have their death quickened.
Not everything that you put to your lips can quench your thirst.
What is true of your thirst is also true of your soul. Just as your body longs for physical water, your soul longs for spiritual water.
Deep within every soul there is a thirst for true fulfilment and satisfaction. The question is, how are you satisfying your thirst?
The Samaritan woman sought to satisfy her thirst in relationships.
John 4:16-18 He told her, "Go, call your husband and come back." 17 "I have no husband," she replied. 18 Jesus said to her, "You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true."
She had a thirst for love and acceptance, but she's been drinking from the wrong well.
Today, many are still drinking from the wrong well seeking to quench their thirst.
Some jump from bed to bed,
some run from bottle to bottle,
some go from high to high,
some climb from ladder to ladder,
some grab from cent to cent,
never satisfying, never ending.
Of all the things that people try, the most deceptive is RELIGION!
John 4:19-20 "Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem."
Religion is about the external, this mountain or that mountain, this temple or that temple, this church or that church.
But the issue really boils down to one thing: Your heart.
The heart of the problem is the problem of the heart.
If your heart is wrong, no place is right.
Is your heart right with God? It's really about relationship, not about religion.
Religion pacifies, but never satisfies.
Jeremiah 2:13 My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken Me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
Religion will create spiritual "sinkhole" in your life.
Sinkhole occurs when the natural springs of water just beneath the surface dry up, resulting in a collapse of the ground, often destroying lives and properties that are above it.
Isaiah 55:1 "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost."
How can you buy without money and without cost? Because Jesus has paid the cost for you.
John 4:14 "but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
John 7:37-39 On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." 39 By this He meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
Are you thirsty for the living water? Are you thirsty for the Holy Spirit to fill you?
Are you really thirsty? If you are really thirsty:
1. Surrender to His Lordship
2. Receive His Life
3. Embrace His Love
Psalms 42:1-2 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
